Bombay Dub Orchestra and Miranda Macpherson team up on Cultivating Compassion, the first release on Six Degrees Records’ brand-new Soundbalm imprint. Focusing on the rendezvous of ambient music, new age, and sound healing.

Speaking to the genesis of Soundbalm, Six Degrees co-founder Bob Duskis shares, “From my days working at Windham Hill Records, to the 25 years that Six Degrees Records has existed, I’ve been particularly fascinated by music’s ability to heal, comfort and elevate us. The concept of ‘Music as Medicine’ is very real to me and has become only more relevant during the Trump years and now the pandemic. I think we can all benefit from being transported by these immersive new sound journeys and I look forward to presenting new ways in which spoken word and beautiful music can be combined.”

Blending original music from the best ambient artists with guided meditations, Cultivating Compassion is the first in a series of projects.

Cultivating Compassion features Miranda Macpherson, a spiritual teacher and author, who, escorts listeners on a journey to grace, by means of meditation, examination, devotion, and psychological wholeness. Centered in her all-embracing study of wisdom traditions, Miranda has served as a mystical guide into the sacred for three decades.

Miranda’s most recent project, The Grace Deck, follows on the heels of The Way of Grace: the Transforming Power of Ego Relaxation (Sounds True), Boundless Love (Ebury) and Meditations on Boundless Love (Sounds True). A kirtan musician, Miranda has released a mantra album, The Heart of Being, and the soon to be released Nectar.

The soundtrack for Miranda’s words is the work of Bombay Dub Orchestra, made up of composer/producers Garry Hughes and Andrew T. Mackay. Bombay Dub Orchestra merges silky electronic music with washes of colors from a full Indian orchestra composed of the crème de la crème of musicians.

The Bombay Dub Orchestra has performed around the world, including the UK’s Big Chill Festival, as well as remixes of Bob Marley, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Bebel Gilberto, along with scoring feature films.

Embracing six parts or tracks, Cultivating Compassion travels on low-slung ethereal textures, mellow and peaceful, at once shimmering and radiant. Shifting layers of nuanced colors infuse the music with transcendent tendrils.

Miranda’s soft, gentle voice guides listeners into another realm of consciousness, one in which sympathy and empathy fuse into benevolence. Her exquisite pacing allows for space to breathe and capture each moment.

Sublime and inspiring, Cultivating Compassion is superb.
